September Newsletter 2008

Tena Koutou, Namaste, Ni Hao, Talofa and Hello to all

The Management Committee and Teaching Team welcome new committee members to their roles and look forward to working with them!

Key Dates

We will be having a Teacher Only Day on Tuesday, October 28.  The centre will be closed on this day.

Our last day of the year will be Friday, December 19.  We will be holding our Christmas party on this day.

We will reopen on Tuesday, January 27, 2009.

Programme

This year we have created two groups for extension time; Te roopu Tangaroa (younger children) and Te roopu Tane Mahuta (older children).  We have recently noticed a group of children in the middle age group who were not benefiting as much from these sessions.  We have decided to create a middle group, Te roopu Tawhirimatea, to meet these children’s needs.  Following these children’s interests, we have been planning activities such as cooking, science and letter recognition.

Following the children’s interests, we have been planning to have some visitors to the centre:
We recently had a visit from Constable Damien, the community police officer, who talked to children about road safety, wearing seatbelts and what he does for a job.
We also had a visit from the SPCA.  The children learned about how to look after animals and were able to pat Lucy the Labrador puppy and Sylvester and Bosch the rats!
Thanks Stacey for organising these visitors!

New Manager

We would like to welcome our new Manager, Karen .

“Hi everyone, I would like to thank you all for your warm welcome to BECC.  It has certainly made my transition easier.  I have a diploma in ECE and am fully registered. I have had several years experience in the Early Childhood Sector, ranging from  nannying, programme manager/tutor for PORSE, and a variety of years teaching / managing centres.  I was recently the Manager for the Ministry of Health Early Learning Centre for two years.”

Calendars

The calendars are ready to go and the notices are in your pockets now!

Policies

We are currently reviewing a number of the centre policies.  We would like to have some parent input into these.  We will be displaying policies in the foyer for you to read and feedback on.  You are also welcome to come to Management Committee meeting where these policies will be discussed.

We are currently DRAFTING an Annual Management Plan which will be displayed for your comments.  This is used to manage all administration and operational components  to ECE, i.e. financial, management, health and safety, and staffing etc.

Thanks for your support

Pam, Anna, Stacey, Helen, Jo, Karen and Kathleen.
