IMPORTANT DATES:
Centre AGM: 14th September 2010. Please see the Agenda posted at the centre, a rep from each family is required to attend.
Teacher only day Tuesday 26th of October 2010. This is an evaluation/planning day for the team and the centre will not be open that day. Families are not charged fees when planning days occur.
Haere mai/welcome to all the new whanau who have just joined the centre – Kosei, William, Emma, Stacia, Joseph, Matthew who have all started in the last month! What a busy time it’s been!
During Maori language week we learnt new waiata and there was a lot of discussion with the children around some of the displayed information. We got outside into the sunshine as much as possible! Please read about the emerging interests of the children on the learning journey wall! Thanks all those whanau who have returned whanau voice forms, this is often a valuable insight into the children’s lives outside of the centre.
Can you help . . . can you collect any natural materials for our art trolley? We also need wrapping paper, ribbons, corks, milk bottle tops, chocolate wrappers etc etc for our art trolley. Special interest magazines would be great too.

Implications of the 2010 Budget for Brooklyn Early Childhood Centre.
1 August 2010
Dear parents
As many of you will have heard, there have been cuts to government funding for early childhood education centres in this year’s budget. These cuts take effect from February 2011 and will therefore impact on the centres budget for 2011.
The rates of funding the centre receives for each child will be reduced from February 2011 and so the centre will need to review its expenditure for the year, and may need to review the hourly rate it charges.
The committee are thinking about a range of options and will keep you all informed of any changes that will be happening.
The first step will involve a fee increase to cover the increase in GST from October as well as the increased operating costs of the centre. This will be effective from October and will appear on your statements.
In addition we will be applying for grants and will have to be more proactive with fundraising ventures. If you feel you can assist with any of these please let Pam or Karen know. We would appreciate any support you can offer
It is also imperative that we keep our roll numbers up. If you know of children looking for care please inform them to contact Jo if they would like to go on the waiting list.
Please be assured you will be kept informed of any changes that will occur.
Kind Regards
Salena (Chairperson)
Karen (Centre Manager
We are community based/not for profit and need the support from our families in order to operate efficiently. If you can give any of your time to assist with health and safety maintenance issues/fundraising drives/working bees and grant applications, please let us know how you can contribute, as this saves considerably on costs – thanks. Karen /Manager
HEALTH AND SAFETY
If your child is not well enough to participate across the program please keep them at home. Sick children will attempt to keep up with their peers and often deteriorate throughout the day. Please see the notice outlining flu or N1H1 symptoms to look out for.
Glad wrap is a choking hazard – if possible could you wrap your child’s food in lunch paper or use containers.
We have had several reported cases of threadworms. Please contact your local pharmacy for information and treatment options. We will be focusing on hand -washing as a preventative measure – but treatment is often only effective if all children are treated.
CIVIL DEFENCE STORES are about to be replaced, you will be asked to contribute to this, a notice will go up informing you of the items we would need in the event of an emergency
