At BECC
Matariki has been a success with pizza day, pot luck dinner, poi making, shared lunch and the whole centre trip to Te Papa Story session on Friday 2nd July. Thanks everyone who contributed to any of these happenings – it’s been a great week! There has also been a lot of interest in technology with the children using the digital camera around the centre! Lots and lots of ballet and break dancing too!
To all those who contributed towards the gifts for the school – thanks so much . . . Stacey and Jo presented Chris Bryant with a book/calendar and a painted canvas marking Matariki in gratitude for the time that we spent in their school hall! They made it so easy for us!
Can you help . . . we need
acorns, gumnuts, bark, shells, seaweed or any natural resources you can lay your hands on.
Wrapping paper, ribbons, corks, milk bottle tops, chocolate wrappers etc etc for our art trolley.
Please bring in several changes of clothes per day as we may get wet! Extra shoes or gumboots are great on wet days for when we take a run outside in the rain.
Committee news
Movie Night Fundraiser – keep an eye out for details for an upcoming movie night!!! We will need help organizing this fundraiser, let us know if you can help!
Please remember if you wish to take your child off the roll you must give FOUR weeks notice – in writing please. If you are intending to travel overseas this also has implications on funding; you should talk to Jo, or Kathleen our administrator, about the amount of time your child will be absent from the centre.
Ka kite Nigel, Sally and Louis. Nigel is a parent at BECC who put in lots of voluntary hours at building committee meetings, initiating the building upgrade project, working with the team and the committee drawing up architectural plans and managing the transition through to completion. Future proofing the place for generations to come!! Louis leaves to go to school!
Message from Karen
Please remember we are a community based, not for profit organization. We need the support from our families in order to operate efficiently. We would appreciate any time and help with health and safety maintenance issues/fundraising drives/working bees and grant applications. Let us know how you can contribute – thanks. Karen/Manager
Health and Safety
The door has been fixed – please do not ask your child to open the door for you as they do it even when you aren’t here! This is a health and safety risk.
If your child is not well enough to participate across the program please keep them at home. Chicken pox, croup and swine flu are in the community. If your child is unable to participate in all curriculum areas, if they are unwell they should remain at home. Children who are unwell will attempt to keep up with their peers and deteriorate throughout the day. Also we have no separate facilities to care for sick children. Please see the notice on the board at BECC regarding flu or N1H1 symptoms to look out for.
Quote . . . .
Children learn a lot about themselves and others through dealing with conflict. They learn that other people can have different views from their own. They learn strategies for negotiating. They learn their own limits. They learn communication skills. They learn to try out strategies that they have had modeled to them! Childspace Early Childhood Institute
Thanks to all those who turned up to tidy out the back storage area. They were: Salena, Angelique, Kate and Rachel. Much appreciated.
